Know Your Notice · The IRS Notice Inspector

Got a letter from the IRS?
Start by understanding it.

Half of what we do is representation — and every case starts with the same object: an envelope you’re afraid to open. Pick the letter you’re holding and read it the way we read it: what it means, what the clock is, and what happens first.

Department of the Treasury — Internal Revenue Service

Notice CP14 · Balance Due

Taxpayer: A. SAMPLE · Charleston, SC

Tax year: 2024 · Notice date: on the letter

Amount due: $2,431.18

This is a sample document with sample figures, shown so you can see how a notice is put together. Your notice, your dates, and your facts control.

Pay by the date on the notice

Questions about this notice? You have the right to representation — you never have to speak with the IRS alone.

  1. What this notice is

The first bill the IRS sends after processing a return that shows a balance — the tax, plus penalties and interest figured to date.

  2. What the IRS is actually saying

“Our math on your filed return leaves this amount due.” It’s a statement of account, not a levy: nothing has been seized, and no one is at your door.

  3. The clock on it

Interest and the failure-to-pay penalty keep accruing until the balance is paid. If the amount looks wrong, the time to question it is now — before it ages into sterner letters.

  4. What we do first

We pull your IRS account transcript and compare it line by line with the return you filed. The first conversation is whether the number is even right.

Whatever the letter says, the first step is the same: a conversation.

Pricing

Floors, not quotes.

No calculator, no sliders — just honest starting points. Every return and every engagement is different, and the real number depends on the details of your situation. So here are ours, in public, with the things that move them listed beside them.

1040

Individual Tax Returns

starting at $500

Priced from a clean, single-source return. Most returns are more than that — which is why the starting price is exactly that: a start.

Price increases with

  • K-1s
  • Rental properties
  • Schedule C business
  • Interest & dividends
  • Foreign income
  • Farm income
  • Overall complexity and additional forms

1120 / 1120S

Corporation Returns

starting at $1,200

Business returns scale with the business. Starting prices assume a single owner and straightforward books.

Price increases with

  • Number of shareholders
  • Multiple entities
  • Overall complexity

1065

Partnership Returns

starting at $1,500

Partnerships carry every partner’s share with them — the return is priced for the care that takes.

Price increases with

  • Number of partners
  • Multiple entities
  • Overall complexity

One honest note: we prioritize individual returns for clients we already serve on the business side. Standalone personal tax preparation is available, but offered case-by-case.

Bookkeeping & Advisory — four tiers

These engagements are quoted, not calculated — every business’s books tell a different story. Here’s the general shape of where clients land. Every tier includes built-in advisory time, because in our experience there’s no such thing as a “quick question” — what feels like a bookkeeping ask is usually advisory work in disguise.

Tier I

$800

Bookkeeping, plus basic advisory question support.

Tier II

$1,200

Everything in Tier I, plus priority response time.

Tier III

$1,600

Everything in Tiers I–II, plus tax estimates and monthly check-in calls.

Tier IV

Custom

Everything in Tiers I–III, plus dedicated consulting on top of advisory.

Meet Teresa

The agent behind the firm.

Teresa Zubrowski didn’t come up through a big firm’s training program. She worked in food & beverage — late nights, long shifts — and after her daughter was born, she traded the nights for a degree: a bachelor’s in applied science in accounting from Southern New Hampshire University, earned while raising her daughter and working. Raised by a single mother, in her words, “I don’t come from money.”

She became an Enrolled Agent — the federal credential built for tax practice and IRS representation — and in 2020 she founded this firm in Charleston on a simple operating idea: education, clarity, and personalized solutions. Advice fitted to your actual circumstances, not generic information. A hybrid, anti-burnout culture for her team, because steady people do careful work.

“We value building real relationships with our clients, not just crunching numbers.” — Teresa Zubrowski

The Team

Four people. Every one of them knows your file.

No call center, no ticket queue, no starting over with a stranger. This is the whole firm — and that’s the point.

I am so happy that I found Teresa. She took the time to actually assess my business and how I have been filing, so now I will save thousands in taxes this year. Her and her team are very thorough so I also decided to have them handle my bookkeeping. Way to start the New Year!

— A.C., client

Teresa is very well versed in both Taxation and Business matters. She clearly communicates accounting nuances in terms that people can understand. I asked her opinion on recent tax issues that have surfaced for me, and without hesitation, she agreed to lead the effort to resolve them. She is truly capable and willing at resolving the accounting needs of both individuals and businesses.

Having Teresa take care of our taxes for my husband’s multiple businesses and mine was such a huge relief! After my father passed away I was totally lost on how to navigate all the unexpected changes to my finances that caused and she walked me through all of it. She also helped with his taxes too. I really appreciated their extremely fast responses. I’m always going to use them for our taxes!

Additionally, Teresa took the time to get to know me as a person outside of my accounting needs. This is a welcome for me as I now believe we have a lasting relationship based on mutual respect.

How It Starts

We ask first — because the right answer depends on your facts.

Before we advise anyone, we qualify the fit: your entity, your years in business, your revenue range, whether tax liabilities already exist. Ten minutes that make the first meeting worth having — that’s the advisory mindset, applied before you’ve paid a dollar.

FAQ

Questions, answered straight.

What does it cost?

Our starting points are published, right on this page: individual returns start at $500, corporation returns at $1,200, partnership returns at $1,500, and bookkeeping runs in four tiers from $800. Every number is a floor, not a quote — K-1s, rentals, multiple entities, and complexity move the number, and we tell you where you land before any work begins.

I got a letter from the IRS. What do I do first?

Don’t ignore it — the clock printed on it is real, and most notices get more options, not fewer, when they’re answered early. Read our plain-language guide to the common notices above, then bring the letter to a conversation. When we represent you, correspondence runs through us: you stop fielding the IRS alone.

Do you only take business clients?

Businesses are our center — bookkeeping, payroll, and business tax are the practice’s core. Individual returns are a priority for the clients we already serve on the business side; standalone personal tax preparation is available, but offered case-by-case. If we’re not the right fit, we’ll tell you plainly.

What’s an Enrolled Agent — is that like a CPA?

An Enrolled Agent is a federally licensed tax practitioner, authorized by the U.S. Treasury to represent taxpayers before the IRS in audits, collections, and appeals. Teresa Zubrowski is an Enrolled Agent — it’s the credential built specifically for tax and IRS representation, and it’s the credential at the center of this firm.

Can you work with me if I’m not in Charleston?

Yes. We serve clients throughout the Charleston area and across the nation. Documents move through our secure client portal, meetings happen by video or phone, and our office at 22 Westedge is by appointment for in-person visits.

I haven’t filed in years. Is it too late?

Unfiled returns are a named part of our practice — you would not be the first person to walk in with missing years, and you won’t be met with judgment. The first step is a confidential conversation about where things stand; from there we can see exactly what the IRS has on file and file the missing years in the right order.

How do we share documents?

Through our secure client portal — you get access from day one, and sensitive documents never travel by regular email. If you’re not sure what to send, ask us by text at 843.408.0494 and we’ll tell you exactly what we need.

Don’t face the IRS alone.

And don’t face the year alone either. One short form, one call, or one text — an appointment, not a sales funnel.

By appointment only — tell us when works, and we’ll confirm.
